Custom Merch - Advice and Info

Why is artwork so important?
Good artwork can be the difference between selling merch and making money, and having a load of stock sitting on a shelf.
Super fans will buy anything, but you want to get the most sales you can, and great artwork will sell... simples

GO PRO!!
Whilst saving yourself some cash in the short term seems like a good idea, unless you are a graphic artist or designer you really should invest your pennies wisely and pay someone qualified to do it. why spend a fortune and countless hours creating music, and then not give it the visual appeal it deservesdo your research, look for recommendations and you will find yourself with artwork that will sell your music and your merch branding is everything.... as much as you may want your music to speak for itself... we are talking about the general population... humans.. people will always gravitate towards things that look the dogs do-daas we work closely with very metal art and highly recommend them, but the choice at the end of the day, is of course yours

DON'T DO THAT!!
Choose merch that will sell. Don’t choose merch because it is cheap..choose your merch, because it is quality.
Choosing items that you like and would buy yourself is always a good start. Don’t waste good artwork on something that looks pants... it may be cheaper but .. well.. it looks it..

Do you have templates?
we have templates available in Photoshop format for those who would like to design their own artwork. you can get these further down the page in the appropriate section. We can also design the layout for your merch... Just send us the artwork - for a limted time we are offering this service free of charge

High res, file types & Dimensions
It goes without saying.. but I’ll say it anyway... artwork should be as high res as possible. We can make a large image smaller, but we can’t make a tiny image larger without it looking a bit .... well... it won’t look good.

Artwork should be uploaded to the site or emailed to us, preferably in PSD or PNG format with a transparent background. If you only have jpeg, that’s usually ok, but the above are preferred. If you are sending in a final design, as jpeg should be fine so long as the resolution/dimensions are correct (as per the product info section)

Lets talk dimensions... We can’t fit a rectangle into a square, no matter how we try... it will need cropping... we will help and advise, and show you examples, but please have a think about what artwork will fit where. your graphic designer/artist should be able to help with this.

Why choose corrosive merch? at corrosive merch we believe in customer service in quality. We only sell items, we feel are quality, and once we know the process work. If we don’t believe in the quality, we won’t sell it.. it really is that simple..

Designing for non white background items (excluding tshirts)
It's simple, and I won't sugar coat it. We don't print white!! All the non-industrial processes currently available, just don't hold up to our quality control. This means we can print on items with light backgrounds, but not dark. Eg, imagine, writing in red pen on a black piece of paper... would you see it? Not very well.....
Most of our items have write backgrounds, so you can design in the usual way with no fuss. However we do offer some non white products so here's what you need to know. The simple fact is, that any white on your design will come out the same colour as the item.

For silver coloured items, use bold designs, that aren't too intricate. Black works extremely well and will pick up lots of detail and the items will look amazing. However, if it's clever shading, and colour that makes you artwork shine, whilst it will of course print, it won't look great.

How come you can print on black t-shirts then?
A common question. We don't print them - we use clothing vinyl. Please see the vinyl section for more info.

Custom Merch - Etched Glass

ETCHING VS engraving
Engraving is usually done by machine, and a computer tells the laser where to go, and it lasers the top surface of glass off.
It creates good results, but leaves the lasered parts rough, and although this process can replicate more detail, this is often lost due to the rough texture.
Etching is done using a stencil of the design, and then using etching cream or sandblasting. etching is a much more labour intensive approach: the design has to be cut, the unwanted parts removed to create a stencil, then applied to the glass, masked and etched.
However, we will only use etching as it gives far better results, the design will be smooth, permanent and will not affect the strength of the glass.

Artwork for etching
Firstly, it’s one colour – etched colour – it basically makes the glass opaque. So, if you have fancy colours behind, shading etc, we will not be able to replicate that. Solid designs work best, and again your graphic designer/artist should be able to produce artwork for you that will work. We can also look at your artwork and change to a design that we work. As ever, we will be here to advise and help, so you get the results you want

Custom Merch - Vinyl Info

What is Vinyl?
There are 2 types of vinyl we use: sign vinyl and heat transfer vinyl (HTV).
Sign vinyl can be used for decals, car stickers etc, whilst HTV can be used On fabrics, and can be washed and is hard wearing.
Vinyl is cut using a machine and the unwanted parts are taken away by hand.

YOUR LOGO AND VINYL
Vinyl cutters can recreate good detail, but some logos will be just to amazingly detailed to capture It all.
In most cases, the design can be simplified and looks just as good. We will work with you to design a cut-file that you are happy with.
In rare cases that we cannot reproduce your logo we will offer alternative solutions

WHY CHOOSE VINYL? Simple answer: it’s the most cost effect method for short runs.once we have you logo cut file ready, it can be used for small runs of: vinyl decals, window sticks, etched glass, bags, tees, hoodies, vest tops, cushions,.....the list goes on!!!
If you want large runs of clothing ets, go to a screen printer - we will happily recommend on request.

Safe area: This is the area of your design, where your should keep all your important bits. Again, due to slight variations in size, you don’t want an important part of your design (eg web address) being chopped off. So keep it all in the safe zone. Safe lines are shown by a blue dashed line.
